Swedish Gustavian Longcase Clock
With its clean lines and beautiful dry-scraped finish, this lovely Swedish Gustavian longcase clock is sure to be the focal point of any room. The fluted motif along the body of the column, a quintessential example of Gustavian design, is very on point with today’s modern design trends. The clock’s iron face is overlaid with plaster and features hand-painted Roman numerals bordered by a simple triangle pattern around the perimeter. Although the clock is not currently working, there is no reason why it couldn’t run again.
Found in Sweden, dating to the 18th century
Clock has been dry scraped to reveal the natural wood beneath, however, remnants of the original gold leafing, creamy white and blue-green paint remain
The face shows the clockmaker’s name, perhaps “Lars Frost”
Original gold ornate hands; little hand is not properly connected
Retains the original movement, pendulum and weights
Constructed with hand-forged nails
Hinges on the clock’s hood have been replaced, as found
Wear consistent with age and use
