Originally used as a marriage or dowry chest gifted to a newly married couple in Sweden, this beautiful antique hand-painted chest is a perfect storage piece for the modern home. The chest is decorated with a lovely kurbits floral motif, common to the Swedish folk art style, and begs to be kept in a room for all to see. Whether used for stowing away throw blankets and sweaters during the warmer months or hiding children’s toys year-round, the chest is perfect in size to use as a stylish coffee table.

  • Found in Sweden, dated 1767

  • The exterior of the chest has been hand-painted in shades of deep blue, green, and red with a wreath and floral motif decorating the front and red tulips on the ends

  • “ANNO 1767” (“in the year 1767”) has been hand-painted on the front

  • The Interior of the lid has been painted with red tulips, which represents a declaration of love, and further includes the year 1767

  • The chest is of solid pine construction

  • Original decorative hand-forged iron strap hinges, lock (not in working condition; no key), and handles at each end are present

  • The Interior of the chest is still fitted with the original candle box (very rare to find!)
